Rooney - I Should Have Been After You
"You set me up with your girlfriends, but none of them worked out for me"
Rooney's debut album was full of sun-kissed surfer rock that, although it didn't set the charts alight, proved to connect with a lot of fans. Given a second chance for chart domination, the group have come back with an album that wears its influences on its sleeves: a bit of the Beatles here, a sprinkle of Queen there. Their new single, When Did Your Heart Go Missing, is quite brilliant, and I've got another taster for you today ahead of the album's July 17th release date. I Should Have Been After You is one of the band's best songs to date. A pounding, near-operatic slice of seventies stlyed pop, it's the natural meeting point of Queen, The Feeling, and Robbie Williams. And, after about two and a half minutes of it, the track ascends into a swirling, space-age pomp strut that is most definitely the direction this band should be going.
