Karin Park - Can't Stop Now

"Should I walk away, finish up the game and play it safe"

Joining Robyn as a fellow Scandinavian singer that is pop minded yet slightly off kilter, Karin Park has returned with this brilliant, brilliant new single. Can't Stop Now sounds very much like a Robyn song (or maybe Linda Sundblad, another fantastic Swedish artist) and feels like a gigantic hit waiting to happen, even though it seems to have stalled on Swedish radio. Maybe it's a different story in Norway, where Park is from. Still, I can't wait for the album that this track is taken from, especially if there are more tracks like this one.

The Black Tie Revue - Absent Radio

"Sounds to me like you're acting so crazy"

The Black Tie Revue is a band from Pittsburg that seem to specialize in incredibly fun retro rock. Absent Radio is a fuzzy, catchy blast of the sort of punchy attitude that's absent in so much rock music these days. It's over in two and a half minutes, but there's plenty more where that came from on their debut full length, Code Fun. You've got to love a band that poses with red balloons and looks so happy doing so. This, of course, has nothing to do with their music, but it's worth a mention. Anyways, listen to the track and if you like it, you can hear more at their myspace.

Unklejam - Just Like Me

"You're just like me, can't you see?"

I think this song goes wonderfully with yesterday's post on Chromeo. Unklejam are one of my favorite new bands, and their single What Am I Fighting For was one of the best of the summer. Just Like Me (off their upcoming debut album) follows suit and sticks to a nearly identical sound as their previous release. Soulful vocals, funky (but subdued) beat, and a wonderful, catchy chorus. The rest of the album is fantastic as well. It really sounds like pop music of the future, with of course a generous nod to the past. This is the kind of stuff that Prince should be making nowadays.

Chromeo - Bonafied Lovin

"What you need is a sweet caress"

Forgive me for being so late on this post. The weekend was spent on my move over the mountains (to a much hotter, drier and more conservative part of the country... imagine my joy) and internet (and free time) has been nonexistant. I tell you, if I have to touch another modem or router I'm going to end up assassinating it. But, anyways, I did have time to watch the Britney debacle on Sunday and listen to some great music while unpacking. My most played album at the moment comes from electro funk duo Chromeo. I initially dismissed them as a gag band, what with their goofy look and adherence to a somewhat silly genre. But, their new cd is excellent, especially Bonafied Lovin. I first heard it on Sirius Radio and was immediately hooked. I've decided it's all in the guitar parts. I am completely obsessed with them. They remind me of the guitar in Arabesque's early 80's campfest Fly High, but this track is so much better. If you've ever had a doubt about Chromeo, give it a listen and those doubts will be washed away. Oh, and if you like the song, buy the album, because the whole thing is brilliant.
