IIIII - People (ft. Adele Kosman)

"We are the information, the little things you want to know"

It's always exciting when a great new band or project comes out of (seemingly) nowhere. Now obviously, I'm sure the guys of IIIII (also known as Lines) don't feel like they came out of nowhere. But, they've certainly burst on the scene fully formed with one hell of a pop song. When I first heard People, I was reminded of when I first listened to MCMT's Time To Pretend. It has that same dense, kaleidoscopic sound to it while still retaining the melodic essence of a great pop song and a casual air of freedom. If that weird vocal sample at the beginning initially puts you off, don't worry. I had the same thought, but although its used often throughout the track, it's used incredibly effectively. More importantly, the entire thing's just a massive slice of anthemic goodness. Happy early Thanksgiving to my American readers! I'll be back on Friday.

Hi Suhyun - I'm Different (ft. Bobby)

From one YG track to another, I'm always compelled to post the latest from Korea's most reliable entertainment company. Hi Suhyun is a special project merging the talents of solo artist Lee Hi and one half of sibling duo Akdong Musician, Lee Suhyun. Both are YG artists and, incidentally, were contestants on K-Pop Star. I love them both separately, but together they're even better. Two very distinct voices and personalities elevate what could easily have been a forgettable track. Add to that a feature from upcoming boy group iKON's Bobby and you have an absolutely incredibly combo. The music video is, of course, adorable, and that track itself has that undeniable sass and swagger that characterizes the best of YG's output. I liked it from the first listen, but didn't expect it to stick with me a strongly as it has. I would love to hear an album or mini from this duo in the future (as long as it doesn't stop Akdong Musician from putting out more music as well).

GD & Taeyang - Good Boy

"I am a good boy"

When I hear that G-Dragon is coming back (in any capacity), I automatically get very excited to hear what he's come up with. Now, of all the genres he dabbles in, trap is not really my favorite version of GD. Because of this, it took a couple of listens for me to get over the disappointment that Good Boy wasn't another Crooked and learn to enjoy it for what it actually is. Having fellow bandmate and old friend Taeyang on the track certainly helps, as his parts are easily the catchiest -- especially that rapid fire bridge before the breakdown. Even the squiggly beat, which I'd initially found a little annoying and overdone, has wormed its way into my head. Above all, this track makes me even thirstier for a full comeback from Bigbang. I can think of no other band in the world who is able to pull apart and be so incredibly awesome and successful as solo artists. I feel like all of that experience is going to make for one hell of an album once they decide to release it.
