Flashback Thursday: Pseudo Echo - Listening

"Now it's too late, you're not listening"

It's Friday's track today because I'll be on the road tomorrow. I've been waiting to post a song by this fab Australian 80's band ever since I discovered them. Pseudo Echo create straight-up, catchy 80's pop rock that deservedly was a big success in their homeland. This track initially appeared on the band's debut but this version is a rerecorded one from later in the 80's, rereleased as a single for their greatest hits. It's got more oomph (and, of course, more keytar) than the original. But in either format, this is a great track with one hell of a chorus. It's just totally my kind of song. They also recorded a fantastic cover of the disco classic, Funky Town, that I'd recommend checking out.
On Monday alienhits goes Halloween!

IAMX - Spit It Out (Designer Drugs Remix)

"I know people need love"

I have to echo bigstereo's praise of this great dance track. I've always liked IAMX's look, but never been that much of a fan of his music. This track, in its remixed form, is the best I've heard from him. The original's pretty good, but the remix really puts it over the edge, transforming it to an absolute club stomper. It becomes about a gazillion times more dramatic, especially with the choir of synths backing the verses. And the chorus is just soaring. It's been awhile since we've heard new music from this guy, and this is a direction he should definitely be pursuing. Drama is always good!

Fake - I Am The DJ

"I say: I rock, I'm hot"

I wrote about "anonymous" Danish dance duo Fake a long time ago, highlighting their brilliant 1,2,3,4. Now they've released a new EP with three new tracks on it. I can't say any of them are as good as their first two singles, but they do offer an interesting new direction for the duo. They've always used a lot of guitars, but the new tracks are rockier--more pop songs than dance songs. I Am The DJ is the strongest of the three, a catchy (almost too catchy) rock track that borders on novelty. It'll probably annoy some people. I'm still on the fence about it myself, but I owe these guys the benefit of the doubt after a double-helping of amazing singles earlier this year, both of which are on the new EP.
