Bermuda Triangle - Two Things

"You couldn't see yourself so you kept on fighting"

With a name like Bermuda Triangle, you'd expect something really different and mysterious. It turns out, though, that this band plays pretty much straightforward synth pop, but that's in no way a bad thing. The band have a stately sound similar to bands like Erasure and Pet Shop Boys. Two Things is my favorite track, with gorgeous, throbbing verses and a big chorus. On another note, I love the press photo. It reminds me of a school photo where everything is meticulously arranged and nobody really wants to be there.

Dolly Daggers - Numb

"People are talking"

Dolly Daggers have been featured on Alienhits before and the track I'm posting today is not their best song, but I'm posting it to bring attention to the clips the band have recently put up on their myspace from their upcoming full-length album. Circleline & People Like You elevate the band to a whole different level and I am now superexcited about their album. They seem to have built on the eighties influences of their prior material and added a new, more professional sounding urgency to the tracks. Add to that a lead singer with amazing punky glam fashion and you've got a band that have bucketloads of potential.

Midnight Juggernauts - Nine Lives

"I've lived my lies, I've lived them well"

Midnight Juggernauts, currently blowing up in Australia, excell at creating tracks of dense, alien synth landscapes and then throwing simple pop melodies on top. Their single Into The Galaxy is amazing... sort of a cross between Muse and ELO with a dance edge. Nine Lives is just as good, starting off with a thick layer of synths and only getting more epic from then on. The album, Dystopia, is not the most accessible thing you'll hear all year, but there are plenty of gems like this buried within all the sci-fi gloss.

Harmonica - Rocking Girl

"I'm gonna be the one to make you see that what I do is real"

A hold over from Norwegian week, Harmonica are unabashedly fun. Rocking Girl is so upbeat and happy and fantastic that it could single-handedly start and maintain a party with its energy. It's so much better and fresher than Avril Lavigne's similarly chanty Girlfriend. The track's from the group's delightfully titled EP Miaow, Miaow, BARK!, and rests alongside (from what I've heard) a handful of just-as-peppy powerpop tracks. Face it, Norway knows how to have a good time.

Ali Love - Bop St.

"Let me take you to the place where the people fly to outer space"

Blogs seem to be going crazy for him, but radio seems all but finished with his new single Secret Sunday Lover. Add to that the fact that it's almost impossible to get any of his music if you don't live in the UK, and I'm beginning to think that Love's deserved rise to the top is going to be harder going than it first appeared to be. We need to change that, because this guy is a great modern pop star. Bursting on the scene last year with the punky K-Hole (reminiscent of Adam Ant?) and then following it up with a poppier single this year, he's already shown his versatility. Having heard a load of b-sides and album tracks, I can safely say his debut (out in September) is going to be fantastic. Bop St., an 80's homage if their ever was one, is a perfect example of Love's charm. Let's just say that Prince is obviously an influence.... and remember this is only a b-side!

1. Don Juan Dracula - Fashion Girl
2. Margaret Berger - Pretty Things In Life
3. King Midas - 97 Tears
4. Pleasure - Sensitivity
5. Surferosa - Human Fool
6. Lukas Kasha - I Won't Lay Down
7. Lorraine - When I Return To The World
