I don't know how I missed this when it was released four months ago. I guess that's what music videos are for, and Eden XO released hers today, drawing my attention finally. Now, Eden XO is the new stage name of Jessie Malakouti, formerly of ace pop project Jessie & The Toyboys. I loved the music of the Toyboys and even featured it here, but if I'm honest, I'd somehow forgotten about the project. Shame on me! Too Cool To Dance is a single that brings it all back to the forefront--a big dance track that sounds like a cross between Gwen Stefani and Kylie Minogue with a modern disco beat. Jessie/Eden is a pop star that never got her due, so here's hoping this new image will reignite her music career. I'm ready for more songs and an album, pronto!

Take That continue their aggressive, electro-influenced sound with one of their best tracks. It just happens to be attached to one of the year's best movies, too.
Jessie & The Toy Boys - Money Makes The Girl Go Round
"Green is such a pretty color"
Jessie & The Toy Boys will be big. I swear. Jessie's too amazing and creative and fun not to find the right hit to launch her into the stratosphere. She just released her first EP (I hear an album will follow soon), and from start to finish it's fantastic pop. I'd heard all of the songs in some form or another previously, except this one. Luckily, even after the first listen, I was convinced that this is one of her standouts. It's a remarkably big sounding song, with an unstoppable chorus and an even better bit after the chorus. It's pure bubblegum pop, for sure, but with a nasty lyrical edge (um... second verse?). This fits perfectly with your Katy Perrys and Ke$has, and that may well end up being Jessie's biggest hurdle. US girl pop, for a lack of a better term, is booming right now. It's a flooded market. I still think there's a spot for her, though. Jessie & The Toy Boys - Money Makes the Girl Go Round by alienhits

This is going to be huge in 2011. I predict that Jessie & the Toy Boys will be a name everybody will know by December. Jessie Malakouti (her "boys" in question are little more than mannequins) has been around for awhile--a songwriter for famed production house Xenomania who's made an attempt or two at solo fame. This song could really do it for her. It's already been used in a marketing campaign for TV network the CW and I predict that it'll trump the equally impressive Push It as her lead, breakout single. Jessie's got a sound that's perfect for this year. Poppy, fun, a little sleazy (without being Ke$ha-sleazy... or Ke$ha-annoying). Her voice is reminiscent of artists like Kylie, Madonna, Paula Abdul, and Lene from Aqua depending on the song. We Own The Night is anthemic radio pop at its best--I Gotta Feeling mixed with Tik Tok. I don't usually get this excited about songs this trendy and commercial, but I really think this is something special. And the promising thing is, it's only one of many fantastic tracks from Jessie.
