Markus Krunegård - Du Stör Dig Hårt På Mig (Bassflow Remake)

I just love this pairing. As longtime readers know, Bassflow is one of my ultimate all-time favorite producers. Everything he remixes or produces is pure gold. And Markus Krunegård is the vocalist for one of my favorite Swedish bands (the now defunct Laakso). Add these two together and you get something very special--an off kilter pop song married to that sweet dance beat. It also reminds me that I really need to delve deeper into Krunegård's solo material. He's been pretty prolific and popular in Sweden since Laakso ended. This serves as a nice and easy reintroduction. I love the tropical-sounding synths used after the chorus, and the driving beat is on point as usual. I've got a long playlist of Bassflow remixes on my ipod and it's literally the best workout music ever.

Donkeyboy - Silver Moon (Bassflow Remake)

"This must be another fairytale"

Throughout the months, I've shamefully forgotten how much I love the newest Donkeyboy album. It came out so early in the year that it seems like ages ago, but it definitely remains one of the best pop releases of 2012. This track, a remix by one of my favorite producers (production teams?) Bassflow, reignites interest in not only this single, but the album overall. It doesn't change Silver Moon too drastically from what it was originally, but adds enough oomph to make it shine as a more club-ready version. Here's to Bassflow producing the next album!

Top 50 Singles of 2011: 35-31

35. The Sounds - Something To Die For

A late-career highlight. Sometimes all it takes is a well written pop song, and this definitely fits the bill.

34. Katy Perry - Last Friday Night (TGIF)

Katy Perry's chart run continued unabated this year, and this track reignited interest in her brand of young, glossy pop.

33. Donkeyboy - City Boy

Foregoing their usual, more wistful sound for something more electronic, this is something of a revelation for the band.

32. Cher Lloyd - With Ur Love (ft. Mike Posner)

The X-Factor finalist's best single, and a perfect representation of what a Cher Lloyd album should sound like.

31. Salem Al Fakir - Split My Personality (Bassflow Remix)

Pair one of the best producers with one of Sweden's quirkiest pop artists and you have a cross-genre masterpiece like this.

Salem Al Fakir - Split My Personality (Bassflow Remix)

"I leave the good and bad behind"

Bassflow is one of my favorite production houses out there right now. Their trademark, surging sound never disappoints. I'm convinced that they can take any song and make it magic. This track, one of the least memorable from Salem Al Fakir's solid 2010 album, has been turned into something quite epic with this radio remix. One of the biggest gripes I had with the album last year was that Salem only seemed to take his new electronic direction halfway. The tracks that were more experimental were amazing, but the second half of the album was bogged down by more traditional fare (the original of this song being an example). Luckily, by replacing some tracks and scrubbing up the playlist order, the album was easy to rejigger into something great. And now I can add this fantastic club hit to the fold. It may just end up eclipsing everything else. The production brings out the melody to perfection.
