Swiss Lips - Got It Bad

Swiss Lips are back with a new track on their soundcloud feed, and as usual I'm inclined to share it here. This is a band that never broke out big, despite releasing a string of excellent synth-rock tracks. And now they've unfortunately announced their disbandment. Sadly, they just never produced that one song that'd become a hit for them, despite a discography full of excellent material. Got It Bad may be their best song yet, particularly that grand, intensely jubilant backing track. I talked about Sound Of Arrows last Friday, and the music in the second half of this reminds me of something those guys would have created. It has that vast, slightly interstellar feel to it (if music can be described as "interstellar"!). The song is taken from their upcoming second (and last) album, which from the samples sounds like it could be quite good.

Swiss Lips are my kind of rock band, the kind that was in incredible fashion when this blog started but is all too elusive now. They're the kind of rock group that write synth-bolstered pop songs with emphasis on anthemic hooks. I featured them here ages ago, and have since been subscribing to their new stuff on soundcloud (even if I haven't been as diligent on staying up to date as I could have). When Books unexpectedly appeared on my feed, I clicked play and was instantly reminded why I love these guys. That icy 80's synth that opens the track drew me in immediately, but it's that sledgehammer chorus that captured me completely. In an alternate world, this should be getting the airplay that bands like Imagine Dragons and Fallout Boy are enjoying. Their debut album is out in a couple of weeks, so make sure you check it out!

"When I call you've gotta pick up the phone"

I have the legendary Popjustice to thank for introducing me to this band, as they recently featured their new single on their home page. English group Swiss Lips is the kind of band that first inspired this blog. They've got that rocky 80's pop sound that I just fall heads over heals for. It's a sound that was pretty prominent five to six years ago in Europe, but has since been replaced by a more dance-oriented direction, favoring electronics over guitars. Hopefully, Swiss Lips will be one of the first to usher in a new wave of these types of bands. They've certainly got the tunes to do it. All of the songs they've released so far are excellent.
